{"id":167,"date":"2008-11-01T04:58:45","date_gmt":"2008-11-01T09:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.coresecuritypatterns.com\/blogs\/?p=167"},"modified":"2020-08-08T03:31:04","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T03:31:04","slug":"managing-piv-lifecycle-and-converging-physical-logical-access-control","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/websecuritypatterns.com\/blogs\/2008\/11\/01\/managing-piv-lifecycle-and-converging-physical-logical-access-control\/","title":{"rendered":"Managing PIV Lifecycle and Converging Physical &amp; Logical Access Control"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartcardalliance.org\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-168\" src=\"http:\/\/www.websecuritypatterns.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/sca_logo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"170\" height=\"64\"><\/a> Last week, I was at the 7th Annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartcardalliance.org\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Smart Card in Government Conference<\/a> and had the&nbsp; opportunity to join a panel on &#8220;Personal Identity Verification (PIV) &#8211; Technologies&#8221; and presented a session entitled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.websecuritypatterns.com\/downloads\/SmartcardAlliance_HSPD-12_ManagingPIVandConvergingPLACS-RameshNagappan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Managing PIV Lifecycle and Converging Physical and Logical Access Control<\/a>&#8221; with emphasis on implementing HSPD-12\/FIPS-201 mandates.&nbsp; I thoroughly enjoyed my participation in the conference, particularly the overwhelming&nbsp; Smartcard and Biometric interests&nbsp; from US Federal Govt organization, Law enforcement, Defence agencies and from other countries as well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"justify;\">\n<p style=\"justify;\">It is quite compelling to note,&nbsp; the conference gave a big boost to FIPS-201 specfications that has become<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_169\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.websecuritypatterns.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/gsausaccess.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-169\" src=\"http:\/\/www.websecuritypatterns.com\/blogs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/gsausaccess-300x254.jpg\" alt=\"GSA USAccess\" width=\"300\" height=\"254\"><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-169\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: GSA USAccess<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"justify;\">the de-facto standard for Identity credentialing for Govt.
